Please indicate all the languages that you can interpret such as your native language, near-native language, passive language, and second passive language. Candidates are required to give a clear explanation of how they acquired their knowledge of the languages claimed. In addition, selected candidates may be required to submit evidence of degrees, knowledge of languages and/or relevant experience.
Applicants applying for an interpreter position must at least meet one of the following requirements (exceptions shall be made when applicable):
Applicants must also demonstrate the following: Professionalism - Excellent performance in, both simultaneous and consecutive interpretation. Familiarity with or ability to use simultaneous interpretation equipment. Familiarity with legal terminology. Clarity in oral communications. Understanding and respect for rules of service. Maintain confidentiality of all materials relating to the work. Ability to work under pressure, and at times in a stressful environment. Communications - Strong oral and presentation skills. Ability to interpret/communicate in a large group setting. Ability to recognize and embrace local terminology. Teamwork - Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Ability to place team agenda over personal agenda, and to support and act in accordance with final group decisions, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect your own position. Positive attitude in sharing of work responsibilities and establishment of work priorities in a team. Willingness to learn from others. Iinterpret shall place no restrictions on the eligibility of men or women to participate in any capacity and under conditions of equality in its principal and subsidiary offices.
- Hold a University degree in Foreign Languages or equivalent, with an emphasis on interpretation. A relevant combination of education and experience may be taken into consideration in lieu of the advanced degree.
- Be a Court Certified Interpreter by the State of California.
- Be an Administrative Hearing Certified Interpreter by the State of California.
- Be a Medical Certified Interpreter by the State of California.
- Be registered with the Courts in the State of California.
- Experience in the interpretation field; experience in legal and medical preferable. Experience in simultaneous interpretation.
